MINISTRY AND PRAYER—PRAYING FOR RAIN

AN INVITATION FROM BISHOP PFEIFER

“I am asking the mayors of West Texas to proclaim Sunday, March 2nd as a Day of Prayer for Rain for all 29 counties of the diocese and beyond.
Our humble recognition of God's help is already a prayer.”

Bishop Pfeifer Lenten Prayer

As we all realize, there is a great need for rain in our West Texas area. We are also told in Sacred Scripture by Christ that whatever good gift we ask our Heavenly Father in His name that it will be granted.

Hence, I am asking all the people of the parishes and missions of the Diocese to join in a common Day of Prayer for Rain on Sunday, March 2, 2008. I am asking the mayors of West Texas to proclaim this Sunday as a Day of Prayer for Rain for all 29 counties of the diocese and beyond.
Our humble recognition of God's help is already a prayer.

I also invite our people to consider offering sacrifice and penance as a form of prayer to ask our God for this heavenly gift. Please also invite other churches in your area to join us in prayer for this much needed gift.

Thank you for joining with me in asking our God for this special heavenly gift of moisture that we so much need.

     “Lord God,

In You we live and move and have our being.

Help us in our present time of trouble.

Send us the rain we need,

And teach us to seek Your lasting help

On the way to eternal life.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

One God, for ever and ever.

           Amen.”
